Projects and Donations

The Commonwealth Assembly of Virginia is committed to supporting institutions that preserve, interpret, and safeguard the history of the Commonwealth. Each year, members select organizations whose work strengthens Virginia’s historical, cultural, and educational landscape. These contributions reflect the Assembly’s ongoing dedication to honoring early governance, supporting preservation efforts, and uplifting communities connected to Virginia’s story.

2026 Approved Donations
At the April 13, 2026 meeting, members approved donations to two organizations whose work aligns with the Assembly’s mission and values:

• Monacan Ancestry Museum — Supporting the preservation and interpretation of the history, culture, and heritage of the Monacan Indian Nation, one of Virginia’s oldest Indigenous communities.
• Scotchtown Master Gardeners — Assisting stewardship and educational programming at Scotchtown, the historic home of Patrick Henry, through horticultural preservation and public engagement.

Past Donations
Since its inception, the Commonwealth Assembly has supported a range of organizations dedicated to preserving Virginia’s documentary heritage, local history, and archival resources. Past beneficiaries include:

• Henrico County Historical Society – Supporting local preservation initiatives and public history programs.
• Friends of the Library of Virginia – Assisting efforts to expand access to Virginia’s archival collections and historical resources.
• Friends of the Virginia State Archives – Contributing to the preservation and accessibility of vital records and archival materials documenting Virginia’s past.
  

These contributions reflect the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the institutions that protect Virginia’s documentary heritage and ensure that future generations may continue to study and appreciate the Commonwealth’s formative history.

Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, April 12, 2027, when members will gather for an Afternoon Tea.
